The youth of today are, and will come to, be dramatically impacted by climate change. It is therefore only right that engaged citizens aged 16-18 should have the right to vote and impact climate policy that will shape their lives for years to come.
At age 16 a young person can get a job and earn a taxed income. It is not right for a government to skim off a young person’s earnings without even giving them a channel to determine how that money is spent, particularly on climate policy. Young people have it in their best interests to support climate policy that will safeguard their futures, but it is very hard to do that without suffrage.
